Hi Heather - thinking of you for tomorrow
I started Humira April 09 - felt better after about 4 or 5 weeks, tho' sadly in my case it hasn't lasted. Really good for first 6 months however & no side effects at any time. It does sting a bit though - more so than methotrexate. I find it helps to think of someone you're not so keen on & swear at them in your head for a few moments - if your family don't mind you can always try out loud!
Healthcare at Home are pretty good - they had taken over from my hosp pharmacy & started delivering my MTX shortly before I added the Humira. I used the syringes, as I thought it would take up less room if travelling, incl in the sharps box, than the pen device - already using ordinary syringe for MTX. Wished I hadn't - needle thicker on Humira than the needles for the MTX syringes so harder to 'shove' though skin - think pen would get it over & done with quicker. Was about to switch before they decided the Humira wasn't really working any more.
Hope yours works just as quickly as mine but continues to work for longer...
Luv Sally

Hi and welcome to the forum. I am sorry you are not too well at the moment but don't be put off trying the Humira. I was diagnosed with RA 18 months ago. I failed on my first anti-tnf, Enbrel as I had lots of rashes and was not at all well on it. 8 weeks ago I moved onto Humira. I have had no side effects and it is a lot easier to inject than the Enbrel pen. I inject in my tummy (lots of fat) and it surpises me each time how easy it is to do. I have started to feel slightly better already. I am not consumed by fatigue and my joints are a little easier. I did catch a cold last week for the first time in two years but I just knocked off my Methotrexate for a week and am now back on track.

I hope that you decide to go ahead and give it a try as it could be really beneficial to you.

Take care

Jackie

Hello Heather,

Welcome, I have been on humira since December of last year, the first time I injected it I got flu like symptoms the next Day which panicked me......since then I have been ok have seen an improvement, the injection stings me, it feels like I need to pull it out as soon as I press it, but that only last for a few seconds etc. I've had RA since 2006.....along with a few other things too.........I'm thankful for Humira as it helps me with my toddler daughter.............
I hope things improve for you too, keep us all posted, take care Alison xxBigGrin

Hi Heather*wave*

Welcome to the forum BigGrin

I'm Helly, 35yrs old and was born with juvenile idopathic arthritis (diagnosed when 2).... It went into remission when I was 13 and then reared its ugly head again last September. Luckily I got back on DMARDs pretty quick and it looks like its heading back into remission

I'm afraid I can't give you any advice on the Humira but I hope its all working for you since you started...

Welcome again and look forward to seeing more of your posts

ThumpUp Pleased to say I took Humira for the first time yesterday. It all seemed to go well. However, I have terrible nausea which started a few hours after the injection and I still have it today. Hoping this is just because it is the first one and won't be a regular happening!!!!

Thank you all for your replies, I really appreciate it. Love

Heather

Hello everyone

The nausea has finally settled today since Tuesday. Hoping this is purely because it was the first injection and not a regular happening.

Has anyone else had nausea after Humira?

Thank you for all the support, I really appreciate it.

Heather
